The Stars

She’d only given in because she was lonely and the path to the stars looked long

She imagined herself ascending the stairs to the moon

Watching the world fade away

As if there was nothing on it that she needed

Part of that was good

Part of it made her heart dance with freedom

And her mind rests from worrying

She tried to tell herself it was true

Convince herself that the concoction of lies and partial thoughts made sense

That this was a battle that she could win

But she got lost as the brush grew around her

She started to lose sight

The world said this was a taste of the stars

Lost in this maze that sprouted up full of spite

All she felt was alone

All she could do was speak to the sky

And it took it all

The anger and sadness and stress and fear

As well as the hope and yearning and desire and want

She knew it was because it’s filled with so much space

So much nothing

The fear started to creep in as vines grew around her heart

She would be alone there to

The vegetation was so thick

She couldn’t move

She screamed

But she wasn’t sure if the air leaving her lungs was her’s

She wasn’t sure if she was breathing

And eventually in her lonely

She gave up

She let the plants grow around her

Creep inside of her

And she became a part of the world that whispered in her ear

that the stars would never be enough
