Scrapbook Hearts
I stare at our patchwork hearts
Held together by glue and tape
And I will apologize
Knowing that can’t be enough
I have seen people haphazardly paint over their fractured mistakes
Their desperate attempts turn into an obsessive mess
I have watched them become tragedies
Instead
We will take our time
To sit in our broken
Not to ignore our rips and tears
or leave them for later
But to thoughtfully preserve
We will mod-podge our hearts together
Until we become a scrapbooked masterpiece
We will tend to our cracks
And make ourselves beautifully new
